CTAC Review Project

June 24, 2020

Dear Electrical Stakeholders,

Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC), with project management support from CSA Group, has committed to refining the Canadian Technology Accreditation Criteria (CTAC) over a 5-year period to ensure they reflect the current skills and knowledge required by the engineering technology and applied science profession.  CTAC are the set of learning outcome-based standards for technician and technology programs, used by TAC, provincial certifying bodies and educational programs.

We are pleased to announce TAC is initiating the second phase of the CTAC Review Project, the in depth review of each CTAC.

Standards Development Committee

To implement the key activities identified below, the process for reviewing a CTAC involves the creation of a volunteer Standards Development Committee. The Committee will comprise of individuals from across the country with industry and academic expertise in the CTAC disciplines.

CTAC to be Reviewed

Electrical Engineering Technology – Technologist

Proposed Schedule

The review of a CTAC will take place over a period of 6 months in phases as follows:

  • Establish Standards Development Committee: Mid-July, 2020
  • Content development: End of July – End of September, 2020
  • Stakeholder review: End of September – Mid-November, 2020
  • Content development: Mid-November – End of November, 2020
  • Report submission to TAC Standards Council for Approval: Beginning of January, 2021

The time commitment required by prospective Committee members will include three (3) meetings, each approximately two hours in length, to be held via teleconference during the content development phase; and one more teleconference meeting of similar length after the stakeholder review phase. Small working groups will be formed, tasked with reviewing the CTAC and suggesting changes to the learning outcomes for the full Committee to discuss. Committee members must allow time prior to each meeting to review the proposed changes.

Call for Committee Members

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the quality of the educational standards for Canada’s engineering technology and applied science profession!  If you are interested in participating on the committee on a volunteer basis, please submit a resume showing the highlights and number of years of expertise working as a technician or technologist in the field of electrical engineering technology or teaching an electrical engineering technician or technology program.

We recognize that active participation on this Committee is a significant commitment and we thank you for taking the time to consider this opportunity. As participation is limited to a manageable committee size, we encourage interested stakeholders to submit their contact details prior to July 15, 2020.

Please submit your resume and contact details, or requests for further information, to Kat Crew at kat.crew@csagroup.org.

We look forward to hearing from you in the weeks ahead.

Sincerely,

Kat Crew
