Under minimum supervision, the successful applicant will perform skilled work in the development, preparation, maintenance and operation of equipment and facilities for teaching, research and outreach activities in the Mechanical and other engineering laboratories; the successful candidate will work closely with faculty, students and other staff to facilitate teaching and research activities; duties include assisting students and faculty in the design, construction and set-up of experiments; developing and preparing laboratory kits for undergraduate projects and labs; maintaining an inventory of required materials and accessories; equipment diagnostics; calibration and maintenance, and day-to-day trouble shooting; monitoring quality control; the use of computer controlled systems, instrumentation, data acquisition, load cells, strain gauges, accelerometers, LVDTs and other typical testing equipment; as well as health and safety related responsibilities; and other related duties as required.
Experience (3-5 years) at a skilled level in a university or related environment in the operation, installation and maintenance of complex technical equipment; graduation from high school supplemented by the successful completion of an approved three-year program in instrumentation, Industrial Control, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering Technology; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge and experience with data acquisition, servo-hydraulics systems and instrumentation is required. The ideal candidate will be a team player with good communication, time management and organizational skills, as well as have the ability to deal with large groups of people. Experience in setting and maintaining laboratories, and controlling experimental and analytical investigations, would be considered assets.
SALARY $45,383 – $63,642 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
