History of AETTNL

The Association was established under the name of the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland AETTN in 1968 with the sponsorship of the Association of Professional Engineers of Newfoundland. In 1993 AETTN was Incorporated. In recent years, AETTN has been accepting an increasing portion of the financial, staffing and certification load. With increasing membership, the Association has assumed full responsibility and maintained its own office under the directorship of Lynda Hayward as Office Manager.


At the 35th Annual General Meeting held at the Glynmill, Corner Brook, NL on October 4, 2003 the general membership voted in favour to change the name of the association from the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland (AETTN) to the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador Inc. (AETTNL)


AETTNL is not a union. The Association shall not have the power to regulate, within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador or elsewhere, relations between its members and their employees through collective bargaining, nor shall it have the power to join, associate, or affiliate with any organization created for the purpose of carrying on collective bargaining in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Classifications of Membership:

Technologist - graduation from an accredited Applied Science /Engineering technologist level program combined with at least two years of progressive work experience as evaluated by the Certification and Registration Board or equivalent. (P.Tech)

Technician - graduation from an accredited technician level program combined with at least two years progressive work experience as evaluated by the Certification and Registration Board or equivalent. (C.Tech)

Associate - graduation from an accredited technologist level program

Student - enrolled in an accredited technologist level program
